Sentier national panoramique des Appalaches

Le Appalachian Trail est un sentier public de plus de 3 516 km qui traverse les terres boisées, pastorales, sauvages et culturellement riches des montagnes des Appalaches. Conçu en 1921, construit par des citoyens privés et achevé en 1937, le sentier est aujourd'hui géré par le National Park Service, le US Forest Service, l'Appalachian Trail Conservancy, de nombreuses agences d'État et des milliers de bénévoles.

En général, le Appalachian Trail est ouvert toute l'année. Le terminus nord à Mount Katahdin dans le Maine se trouve dans le Baxter State Park, qui peut être fermé pendant les mois d'hiver, selon les conditions météorologiques. Certains tronçons du sentier et des routes moins développées donnant accès au sentier peuvent être fermés temporairement pour diverses raisons, mais sinon le sentier est ouvert.

Cape Cod National Seashore

The great Outer Beach described by Thoreau in the 1800s is protected within the national seashore. Forty miles of pristine sandy beach, marshes, ponds, and uplands support diverse species.
