Highland Light

<p><span class="TextRun SCXW261024347 BCX0" lang="EN-US" xml:lang="EN-US" data-contrast="auto"><span class="NormalTextRun SCXW261024347 BCX0">The original Highland (Cape Cod) Light was constructed in 1797, making it the first lighthouse on Cape Cod. The current 1857 tower is the third on the site, and recently underwent a major rehabilitation. Tours</span><span class="NormalTextRun SCXW261024347 BCX0"> and bookstore</span><span class="NormalTextRun SCXW261024347 BCX0"> operated by seashore partner, Eastern National. The site is open 9 am-5 pm, staffing permitting. The last tour of the day takes place at 4:30 pm.</span></span></p> <ul> <li class="font_8 wixui-rich-text__text"><span class="wixui-rich-text__text">Children must be at least 48" tall to climb the lighthouse due to the height of the stairs and ladders. </span><span class="wixui-rich-text__text">No exceptions.</span></li> <li class="font_8 wixui-rich-text__text"><span class="wixui-rich-text__text">Climbers who are 17 years old or younger must be accompanied by someone 18 years of age or older.</span></li> <li class="font_8 wixui-rich-text__text"><span class="wixui-rich-text__text">To keep hands free for handrails, no person may be lifted or carried.</span></li> <li class="font_8 wixui-rich-text__text"><span class="wixui-rich-text__text">Food, drinks, and bulky personal items (e.g. backpacks, tripods) should be left in your vehicle in the parking area.</span></li> <li class="font_8 wixui-rich-text__text"><span class="wixui-rich-text__text">Shoes are required. Closed-toed shoes are recommended. Each town had to determine if they supported their delegates decision to declare independence from Great Britain. Leading suffragists, including Lucy Stone, Frederick Douglass, and Mary Livermore, delivered rousing speeches to a crowd of more than three thousand, furthering the suffrage movement in Boston. Will Boston support women's suffrage?</p>

Old Slater Mill Tour

<p>Join a Park Ranger on a tour of the Mill that started the American Industrial Revolution. These 30 minute guided tours investigate the historical significance of Slater Mill, and what valuable lessons the building still teachings us. Tours begin at 10:30 AM, 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM in front of the mill. Please arrive a few minutes early.</p> <p> </p> <p><u><em>Please Note:</em></u><em> </em><em>For visitor saftey, tours of Old Slater Mill will be modified or cancelled if the heat index is at or above 87 degrees Fahrenheit. A shortened 10 minute Ranger talk will be offered at the normal tour times. Visitors will have a brief period of access to the main part of the mill. Walking Tour: In the Footsteps of Douglass and Melville

<p>Explore New Bedford through the experiences of Frederick Douglass and Herman Melville, who both walked the streets of this historic port city in 1841. After escaping slavery, Frederick Douglass settled in New Bedford, where he found employment, community, and opportunities that influenced his future work as an abolitionist, writer, and public speaker. Herman Melville also found inspiration in New Bedford’s maritime culture and whaling industry. His experiences contributed to the setting and themes later reflected in <em>Moby-Dick</em>, where he described New Bedford as a city shaped by maritime commerce and global connections. Their experiences reflect how New Bedford’s industries, waterfront, and community shaped lives while connecting this port city to the wider world.</p> <p>Follow in their footsteps and learn how New Bedford shaped two influential figures whose writings and experiences continue to connect New Bedford to the world today.</p>

Bunker Hill: Decisive Day Talks

<h2>Join a Ranger for a Decisive Day Talk!</h2> <p class="">Throughout the summer season, join Park staff or a volunteer outside of the Bunker Hill Lodge for a "Decisive Day Talk." These talks provide an overview of the Battle of Bunker Hill and its memory. Hear the stories of the colonial militiamen who constructed the redoubt where the Bunker Hill Monument stands today. Consider the experiences of British soldiers who sustained substantial casualties in pursuit of this position. Learn about the early inspiration for a Monument to commemorate this early battle of the American Revolutionary War and the individuals and community effort it took to construct.</p> <h2 class="">2026 Season (May 23 - September 27)</h2> <p class=""><strong class="">Tuesday through Sunday at 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm.</strong></p> <p class="">These talks are typically 15-20 minutes in length. If there is poor weather, these talks may be moved inside to the Bunker Hill Museum or cancelled.</p>

Iron Works House Guided Tour

<p>Join a Park Ranger and explore the Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site Iron Works House and learn about the people who lived here for centuries before the house became managed by the National Park Service. This guided tour brings you into the first and second floors of a historic 1680s house.</p> <p>Tours last 30 minutes and are limited to 8 visitors. No advanced reservations are available. The tour is first come, first served.</p>

The Freedom Trail: Enemies to this Country Guided Tour

<p>In 1774 Paul Revere and his neighbors in the North End were forced to make difficult and dangerous choices. As sides were drawn, both Patriots and Loyalists labeled the other "enemies to this country."</p> <p>Join a National Park Service Ranger for a free 75 minute walk and decide who the real "Enemies to This Country" were in the months before the breakout of the War for Independence.</p> <p>Tours begin inside the Faneuil Hall Visitor Center and end at Old North Church, covering about 0.5 miles.</p> <h2><strong>2026 Season (May 23 - September 27) </strong></h2> <p><strong>Join a Ranger for Enemies to this Country Tour Wednesday through Sunday at 11 am.</strong></p> <p>*In case of weather, Rangers will offer an indoor option in the basement of Faneuil Hall, also known as the "Find Your Park Space."</p>

Jamaica Plain
