The exhibition Le cucitrici: Voices of Montreal’s Italian seamstresses shines a light on the pivotal role of Italian women in Montreal’s clothing industry after the Second World War. Emerging from a major wave of immigration, these seamstresses actively contributed to the social, economic, and cultural development of their community, while also supporting the growth of a key manufacturing sector in the city. Presented by the MEM in collaboration with Alliance Donne, an organization that highlights the contributions of women of Italian origin in Quebec, the exhibition brings forward stories and journeys that have left a lasting mark on Montreal and its communities.
